Okay, so I'm at the quest where I'm gonna fetch the excraction arrow or something (the one that supposedly looks like a key) from a wizard. I learned he keeps his stuff at his private tower, I looted through his room in the castle and found the secret entrance to the tower, I went through there and arrived in his grotto, came to a place where two conjurers (his apprentices I assume) take up residence. Then I sneaked around them looting the place blind while looking for a key I need to progress further through a door that can't be picked. None of the conjurers have it, and I can't seem to find it anywhere else either. Has anyone done the quest and know where they key is?
Not true. You are near the water area, I presume? There's a hidden underwater tunnel you have to go through to get around that locked door. It took me a few minutes to see around that one too. Luckily, I have completed every single Thieves' Guild quest now.
