As far as I can tell, there is no limit to the items that Shadow can carry. I have all of my extra weapons and armor stored on him and he's like a mobile alchemy lab.

Yeah it's totally true from what I've tested, I have a ton of armor and alchemy ingredients piled on him, it's about 3x the armor I can carry as an Imperial Knight and he just has that and tons more.
The real question is if this was an intentional doing or if it was just never thought of?

I'd call it intentional, since he is a gift for completing all the Dark Brotherhood quests. (except, of course, the "dead drop" quests. but those are different.)

I did notice you could loot Shadowmere after he got knocked out. Never dawned on me to put something in him.  Has anything ever disappeared from him?

Ok, I got Shadowmere last night, and apart from beinf really fast, and takig care of all the mudcrabs and wolves along the way, I had no idea you could store stuff on him... How do I do this. I play a primarily stealth based character, so I'm always having to return to town to sell and contact my fence, how do I do this???
Also if you get caught by a guard in a town when hot items are on Shadowmere, do they get confinscated???

You have to knock Shadow unconcious, loot her, then switch to your inventory and drop items. They will be on Shadow. To get them off of her, knock her out and loot her. She can't go into a town, so the guards can't take things off of her. They do that when they take you to jail to pay the fine or to serve time.

Also, Shadowmere cannot be killed and is pretty handy in a fight. Unlike most horses, she won't run away. She's killed several people in my game.

If she can't go into town then how do you know where she is? Is she like a horse and will wait outside till you exit a city then follow you to where you have traveled to?

Ok, really noobey question....what is Shadowmere? The title says packmule, is that literal or metaphorical?

Shadowmere is a horse. A special horse.

Quite quite right there, I rather like having him around so I can switch weapons before going through an Oblivion Gate.

I'm just wondering who in their right minds would think of knocking out a horse, to put stuff into/onto and/or get stuff from it. Tongue
It never crossed my mind, that's for sure.

Cool, none the less.

Thanks, but I don't think Id feel right knocking my darling shadowmere out! call me a typical female, but it just seems cruel...
I agree about being handy in a fight. When I had to do the Weatherleah quest, being stealthy i stand no chance against ogres, so I sent shoadowmere in, and stood back and just kept shooting at the ogres... Made a hard quest for me, very easy Grin
