try Morrowind again
«
on:
March 04, 2008, 02:13:57 PM »
I started playing Morrowind again, I never got through the main quest (mainly because of severe restartitis). This time seems to be going better for me, I'm not obsessing over every little number anymore (just a few hehe).
Morrowind is
much
better than I remembered it. The only major annoyance is the frequent crashes, but I can live with it since I usually save every few minutes anyway.
(Edit: I updated my sound drivers and the game crashes much less frequently now.)
So for anyone who's a bit tired of Oblivion, you should try out Morrowind again - I highly recommend it.
I don't even have a lot of mods installed, just the expansions, official mods and a handful of minor player mods (real signposts, weight fix, passive healthy wildlife, and my own house).
My boyfriend has installed just about every graphic enhancement he could find and his Morrowind looks great, but I kind of like the original look.

Ah, metamay's back into the row of Morrowind players
great.
So, I'm not alone.
Only graphic enhancement I use is that FPS utility... I already forgot the name of it, but it can raise the view distance up to 300% from the original. Which makes cell borders visible in many occasions, especially when looking from high places, but generally it's great to see more of what's around. It also reduces FPS quite a bit, down to around 10 for my 2600XT in Ascadian Isles... but I can live with that.

Aah, good sweet Morrowind. Hours of fun with the main story line, not to forget all the vampire clans, and my prescious little werewolves.. Brilliant.
Morrowind has tons of things that Oblivion should'v had. Not talking about stuff like levitate here, but a whole underground vampire clan, for example. Or the werewolves, not tons, but maybe one or two, just enough to become one yourself.
Alas, this console gamer can do nothing but dream.

Graphic enhancements and balance mods?
Hmm, now that sounds interesting.
Once I'm done with college hell, i will give it a try.
Where can I get all those graphics enhancing mods?

Good to see you Korrd.
Well there are many different mods on many different sites, but here's a nice combined package if you like torrents:
http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3604115/Morrowind_visual_upgrade
Some nice ones here
http://ltm.ufrealms.net/textpacks/
And then there are mod sites like Planet Elder Scrolls
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.List&game=3
More mods here
http://www.morrowind-mod.com/index.html
Other than that, google things like "morrowind textures" or browse mod collections. Have fun.
I can ask my boyfriend to post what mods he has if you like.

Hey. Nice to see you too
How are you doing?
I'll try to get the torrent. Although my ISP is torrents' worst enemy.
If it does not works, I will have to download every single mod listed on the torrents' readme manually.
Having that mod list would be helpful, as I lack the time to follow my usual Inet-research path. College stuff, you know.

Hey, nice to see you again.
It's been a while since i last saw you around dgc..
Thanks. The list will come in handy.
I've been able to download the torrent Metamay posted, and it really improves the graphics. It makes them "bearable". Thanks to you too.
Now, for the difficult part.. to find time to play it.

Seriously. If I weren't torn between three games to play at once, I'd gladly do the Bloodmoon questline again. Seriously, that thing was genius. And when I first started the game, I was afraid to go into the wilderness. But Solsthiem broke me of that habit, quick.
Ah, good times...
I have Morrowind for the X-box, unlike Oblivion. Otherwise, I'd have that Adamantium armor mod...

I started playing Morrowind again a couple of weeks ago and know I remember how good it is.
I like the skooma pipes they remind me of Genni lamps.

Couldn't agree more.
I now feel that Oblivion, for all its beauty, was a colossal wasted opportunity. Whereas Morrowind is still fresh and interesting, with a real sense of mystery: I just
know
that I'll never discover everything in that world, not even close.

Oh, not really. I just was afraid of Cliff Racers and Slaughterfish.
Which is one advantage to Oblivion. (Except the invisible wolves near that one fort for that one quest... They're worse than cliff racers! I wasted so many arrows...)

the worst thing in oblivion is probably a mean lich, the worst thing (in my opinion) is the oh so underestimated reikling.

Is it consider obession with morrowind if u place a skelton minion on every road sign like a guard? or a Dremora Lord at every Daedric Shrine?

No, it is considered obsession with conjuration. Or with skeletons. Or with signposts. Signpost obsession is very dangerous, you should have it treated asap!

Ah, Morrowind. Good times.
Anyone seen Tamriel Rebuilt? Biggest Morrowind mod project out there, adds the mainland to Morrowind.
