How can this be?
The Dark Brotherhood was supposed to be decimated! Destroyed! How smug I felt when the traitor I helped went on his way and wreaked his revenge. He left me a letter not so long ago gloating on his destroying the Dark Brotherhood that night!
But then...I saw him! An agent of the Dark Brotherhood! It was only out of the corner of my eye, but that was long enough. Those cold eyes looked right into me! I tried to explain it away; after all, there were more than I out in the street, but I knew it was me he looking at.
That was three days ago, on Tirdas. I swear I can feel his eyes boring into my back every moment! Yesterday I barracaded myself in my house. I'll be safe here. Yes, I'll be safe...
Look at me. Once a respected tradesman, now afraid of my own shadow. Is this the true power of the Dark Brotherhood? I've resorted to writing in this to keep myself awake. I'm jumping at the shadows. I never should've gotten involved with that foolish traitor, but I dare not attempt to plead my case...definately not to the Dark Brotherhood! Only their "Night Mother" is more cruel and frightening.
How long have I been in here? Time seems to stretch out...have they managed to subvert Akatosh? No, my hourglass still seems to flow...
