Great Welktnd stone quest

How do I get through the gate into the Sel Vanua part of Miscrand? It says it has to be opened somewhere else so I jump down from the path and kill a few goblins and push this button but there is no way to get back up to the gate. The stratagy guide says that you have to stand on a pressure plate to open a gate to get back out. I stood on the plate and nothing happens. Please help if you have completed this quest!!!!!

In one of the hall ways on the bottom near a set of stairs there is a button on the wall with a blue glow in the center of it, Press it.

I did push that button. noithing happens, and then I can't get out of that room because I walk out and there is a gate that won't open. The book says to stand on a pressure plate to open it and I do but nothing happens. Now I am stuck.

It's part of the main quest, Martin gives it to you
