Does anyone know a good online map generator that is free. I would be happy if it wasn't y'know... dodgy.
I am planning to possibly create a world map for anyone interested about where other members are, I would make it all access.
Please give me some of your thoughts I dunno about anyone else but I reckon this would be an alright idea for us noseys Smiley.

That would be the main problem with an automatically generated map. Some users don't want you to know exactly where they live... and many of our members are minors, so it potentially becomes a legal question.

Now, if it's completely voluntary and not too specific, it sounds like a fun idea.

I couldn't find any map makers after a quick search... but maybe with more time I'll find one. There are a couple different ones on Facebook but they're designed for one person to show the places they've been, not where many different people are from. Maybe the creators of that system has other programs online.

I suppose it wouldn't have to show exactly where people live, just the general area of the country. For example, "Southern England" is not very specific and still says something about where you are from. Smiley

Hmmmm.....
Yeah thats what I was thinking metamay, maybe putting a marker where you are but not say where it is like metamay said "Southern England" but make the marker so it covers say 2-3 towns, so if any dodgys come along they won't know exactly where you are, and zince most of us live in ciitys and New Zealand is small that would take some finding for those dodgys....
I agree with DM I wouldn't put any location on if the member didn't want to have it on there and then maybe make viewing the profiles of members member only-like most other forums...

We need to find a suitable program first. The maps on facebook that I'm thinking of turn the entire country (or state/province, if US or Canada) a different color. So we would highlight NZ in a different color and mark it with 2, for the number of members there.

If the map program works a different way, like with dots, we'd need to think of different rules and ideas for that sort of system, depending on how close it allows you to zoom.

yup...
Can you please send a link so I could take a look at it? Smiley
The other thing I was thinking was Google earth or Google maps, i think earth, has an option to make your own map...not sure whether it costs or not.

I was going to say that you have to sign up for Facebook to find it... but I found the website for the creators of the Facebook mini-application.

The website is called Where I've Been.

WOW.
It looks pretty good-and the best thing NO DODGY ADS!
It would work pretty well, I guess, as all of us would of been to the place that you/we marked on the map, kinda, just some/most of us wouldn't of been there, but you would've been there (obviously).
If anyone understands this please say.
It looks pretty good, the only thing is, could we get it on here?

I'll look into how to embed it when I get home from work.

We would just set up an account for "Cyrodiil Forums" and we all, as members, will have lived in one of the places that is marked. We probably won't be able to show who lives there, just that someone from the forums does.

So, it has it's limitations but those limitations also pretty much solves some of the other issues of giving out too much personal information.
