Has anyone purchased GTA 4 for PC yet? I wanted to get it from Steam today, but it doesn't let me for some reason.

Anyway, I've read both on forums and on news sites that there are a lot of technical glitches related to this game. It crashes on many ATI cards, has multiple texturing and view distance issues, plus, it has performance problems even on high-end computers. Rockstar says that high graphic settings for this game were meant for future, more advanced PC setups, and current ones should use no higher than Medium (the latter is very strange since GTA 4 was originally a console title, and consoles have less graphic power than modern PCs).

Hmmm... I never thought you'd be the type of guy that likes GTA...
From reading that article, it sounds like Rockstar  have intended it to be for PC's that were made in November because of the settings they ask.
This was the first time I heard it had been released on PC, actually when a Console title does that, you almost think they are struggling, alas I am no GTA gamer so I wouldn't be sure, but after all the bad publicity its recieved, I could be right...
You might have the same problem I did when I firs tried to play Oblivion-We had to get a new PC.

Why do you think that I won't be the guy who likes GTA?

Actually I do like GTA, for reasons similar to those why I like Morrowind, for example (although Morrowind is way better). Free dynamic world where you can do everything, non-essential storyline, optional missions, large world with many interesting places to explore (latter mainly applies to San Andreas). Unique style for the game itself, and "portions" of the cities included. Plus, transportation, great music on the radio (and even great chat in case of Vice City), and nice weaponry to use.

Although I only played Vice City and San Andreas before. GTA 3 didn't appeal to me much.

I dunno, I just imagined you'd be more of a bow/blade/blunt traditional style type of guy...

I've only played San Andreas, and you are right about the interesting places to explore, even though I'd probably do the same in Fallout, I just can't stand people dying WITHOUT dignity, because when you randomly atttack someone on GTA- they pretty much die instantly(though it can be funny to watch).
I've seen someone else play Vice City, but that didn't appeal.
One of my mums employees(uncle pete) has got it for PS3, he says its a cool game but it has got some of those issues on PS3(excluding things like NVIDIA 7900, of course)
But would you really want something like THIS
in a game...                                                                                 (Image  courtesy of gamespot)

"Image  courtesy of gamespot" has been removed I'd guess.

I find it quite natural that I like GTA, nothing surprising about this. Don't think that many people who got a chance to play it for some time can hate it.

gta on pc is FUBAR - eh, now why's that? Previous GTAs on PC were no worse than their console counterparts, if not better. One thing that truly sucked was that plane controls and in certain cases helicopter controls were not adopted for mouse and keyboard at all. This made completing missions really nasty. I remember I had to load one of my savegames to the net for someone from Gamespot forums to complete one or two San Andreas missions for me. And I never really completed Vice City for exactly the same reason.

It appeared that some good keyboards could maintain sufficient level of precision for such tasks, but I mostly use cheap ordinary keyboards which are good for printing texts. They worked fine for playing all other games, though... all except GTA.
