After a very long break in the schedule, it's time for another Screenshot Competition!

Here's how it works:

At the start of each competition, the rules will be stated in the first post and any changes from the standard set of rules will be shown in bold for emphasis, along with the Theme and the Deadline. The Theme is a word, phrase, or description that each entry is based on and will set the basis for judging at the end of the competition. Each user can submit one (1) screenshot each. When the deadline is up, the topic will be locked. A new poll will be created soon after the competition ends so that voting can begin.

Rules:
  • Every entry must be the user's own work. (It cannot be downloaded from another website)
  • Unless otherwise stated, it must be a screenshot from "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion"
  • It can not be edited, color adjusted, or enhanced in any way (Especially, photo or graphics editing programs)
  • You can resize, crop, and scale as necessary to get it to a reasonable screensize and filesize, as long as you're not attempting to enhance the image in the process, as that would violate the previous rule.
  • You are allowed to re-use a screenshot you previously posted on the boards, as long as it follows all other rules and has never been used in any other competition before. (especially this one, of course)
  • No off topic posting in the Competition topic. (Open discussion will be allowed in the Screenshot Competition Discussion topic)
  • No profanity, offensive language, or adult situations. (All forum rules still apply here.)
  • If you have any active mods in the scene (especially user-mods that affect the textures, clothing, or visual quality of the game), please list them in the text of your submission.
  • Include a text description of your general location in Cyrodiil (nearest city; name of the cave, fort, or Ayleid Ruin; or questline) and a brief description of why you feel your picture fits the current theme.

When the competition is over for the week the topic will be locked and a new poll will be created so we can all vote for a winner. Remember, only one entry each, so make it a good one. Since the competition is a long one, if you want to post a new entry your previous entry (in this same competition) will need to be deleted in order to replace the old one. So, if you post an entry and want it replaced but time ran out on editing the old one (24 hours), just post a second one, making sure to make a note that it is your new entry. I, or another moderator, will kindly delete your first entry for you. Feel free to repost your original entry on another appropriate board if you'd like.

This Competition's Theme is Steel
Go into Oblivion (or Cyrodiil) and take a picture (screenshot) of something that best captures the essence of "steel". Post it here and see who's picture best fits the theme. Just do your best to capture the essence of the theme in the most creative way possible. We will have a full six eight weeks to take screenshots this time. Don't forget to enter before the deadline. Winners will have their image displayed for the world to see, so get out there and create an entry. The deadline is now Saturday 2 January 2010 at 7:00pm EST (4:00pm PST; midnight GMT; 10am the next day in Australia)

Good luck and have fun, everyone! Let's make this a great one.

This time around, I'm giving lots of extra time for two reasons:
 - We haven't done one of these in a while and the site has been less active recently so it may take longer for everyone to check in and see that a new competition has started.
 - Late November and early December can be a very busy time for many people between the end of school semesters and lots of holidays and family gatherings.

I will soon post an entry, but I'll suggest to prolong the screenshot collecting time quite significantly given the recent inactivity.

Alright, the deadline has been extended an extra 2 weeks, to Saturday 2 January 2010. Now, people can also use their holiday breaks to capture screenshots and we'll vote for the winner after the New Near.  Mid-December would have been a bad time for a deadline anyways. I would stretch the deadline out even more but we're already double the usual length as it is.

I'm looking forward to everyone's entries.

Here's my last minute entry:
Location: Arboretum, Imperial City, Cyrodiil, Tamriel, Nirn

I think this shot fits the theme because you can see lots of steel in one of it's most deadly forms. I like the dynamic composition, the implied motion, and the fact that you don't know just how many more guards are about to come running around the corner.

Not much time is left and the theme, admittedly, wasn't very good this time around but I hope someone else can squeeze in another entry before time is up. In any case, I'll try to start the next competition within the next few days just to make sure we get these competitions back into a regular rhythm again.

The Oblivion Screenshot Competition #30 is now officially over.

There will be no voting, since there was only one entry. So, I guess technically...

The winner of the Thirtieth Oblivion Screenshot Competition is DM8954.

Sorry! I forgot to place my entry. Using my admin rights (or this thread wasn't locked?) and posting another entry... lost only because of failing to match the contest rules.

I like this shot.

Also. To match demands of our hi-def time, I think we need to increase the recommended image size for contests. Many of the screenshots we store are quite valuable, and while there's no one to vote for contests, screenshots will remain on the site Smiley
