Before Oblivion came out, I was addicted to FFXI (Mithran level 30nin/15thf) on the 360. And before that, I played WoW (Night Elven lv60 Hunter) And before that, a year or two ago, I played Maplestory(lv58 Cleric).
But now...Oblivion owns my soul.

Anybody else playing D and D online atm.  I have rolled a bard but only had time to play for about an hour.  It was easy to find a grp.  I was invited almost before i had set foot off the boat.  Anyway From my first hour of playing I had mixed reactions.  The graphical engine is pretty poor even for an MMO.  The group dynamic is a little lacking because combat is real time every one in the grp just whacks away, ofcourse this might of been purely because the whole group was inexperinced.

On the plus side there are plent of quests to get involved in and unlike MOST other MMO's there is no solo grind.  Ofcourse in the early days of any MMO there are always more people ready to grp as the player base is new and entuastic so to speak.  I did not come across any real bugs either which is good for an MMO so recentley laucnhed.

Two news about MMOs today, and one of them involving D&D Stormreach. Quoting Gamespot.com:

"The PC MMORPG will still be massive, online, and a role-playing game, but can now be played with less of the multiplayer portion. Some areas of the game will be playable by solo adventurers, rather than requiring a party. According to a Turbine representative's post in the game's official forums, the update will "be coming soon to live servers."

A new difficulty option will be available to those who want to have a go at some areas alone. The new "solo" difficulty level will scale the beasties and treasure in the area appropriately so that single adventurers won't be torn to bits. The first area to go solo will be The Harbor--The Waterworks, Irestone Inlet, and Kobold Assault dungeons will remain group areas.

Turbine has also adjusted the experience requirements for leveling up. The change heavily favors new players, cutting the necessary experience points to get to level two by half. However, the requirements for levels four and up will only be decreased by 10,000 points. The new leveling system, coupled with the previously announced seven-day free trial, is likely an attempt to bring in new players to the game."

Another news is very belated release of Issue 7: Destiny Manifest (City of Villains). But even this won't force me to renew an account... the game is interesting in its own ways, but boring in its own ways too.

I played city of heros myself for a few months, but quit before city of vilains.  Its far easier to get involved in that most MMO's and doesnt require a hardcore gamer attitude to play.  Its almost like a console game in that respect.

that said some would probably argue it lacks depth, to each his own...

Building of clan bases, clan relations, many different missions with some kind of plot (yes, they are all filled with moster killing, but goals vary) - add PvP zones to it where heroes fight villains, or everyone can fight everyone, and you get enough depth. Still many parts of the game are not thrilling enough to keep up the interest. As for being easy... this game allows to set difficulty, and efficient ways of character development were quite complicated.

Heh, I've just said about accout renewal... got a newsletter from NCSoft recently where they say they are going to unlock all old accounts for next weekend. Maybe I wasn't right to delete this game from my HDD? But anyway, Oblivion should be enough - not only for this weekend  Smiley

i play Planeshift. its a MMORPG still in development but it has great potential. you guys should check it out at www.planeshift.it.  Mind you, they are really slow developers, but thats because they are volunteers doing it on their own free time, making the game free for players, which rox! if you can get Oblivion on your PC, itll kick ass on your comp.

Can't wait for The Burning Crusade, I'm gonna make a Blood Elf Priest.

I'm also looking for a good mmorpg that is free thats a good time waster when I'm not in a WoW mood.
