im wanting to change  the look of some armor and color it . how would i go about  making my own armor specificly changing the color ?

I'd like to know more about that too, then I could expand my mods with new items.  I haven't found much information of use to me.  Some comments about "expanding .bsa files to get to the games NIFs and meshes".  After that you could reverse engineer how the current ones are done and experiment with your own.  

From past experience with Freelancer you'll encounter all kinds of wierd requirements for file types and file editors formatters and import/eport utilities just to get a working model.  Although I was successful, with lots of support from the modder community, I wouldn't want to suffer all that pain to add an item to Oblivian.

Perhaps the Morowwind sites have tutorials you could read and perhaps it will work the same way for Oblivian.
