Some of you might know me from the Discovery Freealcer fourms. well I have not played either game ( i played for like 20 mins at a friends house) i greatly want to. But my computer sucks and i need to know what i should do. I think i need a new video card. Any reccomandations. oh ya all i have is PCI slots. so no AGP or PCI-E here other than that i think i can run it. I will list all my stuff down here:
Dell Dimension 3000
Intel Celoron processer at 2.40 GHz
768 MB of RAM
Windows XP home, with 2nd service pack thingy
68mb Onboard Video card
onboard speaker, sound card thing
35 gb hard drive, 13 GB of free space.
i think i got it all, thanks for the help,
tho i rather get an x-bow 360 and play it on there, comp is fine 2

Hey Josh, welcome =]
I'm afraid i've got some bad news about your computer's compatability with Oblivion.. it won't actually run the game. Reason being is that model of Dell, as you've already noticed, doesn't actually have any graphics expansion slots (note that you cannot use a PCI-Express graphics card in a standard PCI slot). This leaves you without the ability to upgrade. Furthermore the on-board graphics chip is not nearly powerful enough to meet the demands that Oblivion requires from a GPU, not to mention it doesn't support SmartShader v2.0 which, again, is a requirment for the game.
You could borrow it off your friend and install it anyway just to see what happens. If you like the game enough it's worth a try.. though I guess if it doesn't work it's Xbox for you.

They still make PCs without PCI-E or at least AGP? Oh, no... Dell goes to Hell.
And yes, 360 might be a good decision in this case. It alone costs less than a top-grade video accelerator.
