Oblivion 1.1 patch released
«
on:
June 08, 2006, 08:23:25 PM »
On June 6 final version of the first Oblivion patch was released; beta version of the same patch was available since May 2. Right now beta patch is no longer available for download, and its installation is not necessary for the full version.
The new patch updates Oblivion to version 1.1.511. Two versions of this patch are available: one for US version of the game, and one for UK/European/Australian version. Both of them are not compatible with versions purchased from Direct2Drive, localized versions of TES IV, and (fortunately) illegal copies of the game with copy protection removed. You can download both versions of the file from
Elderscrolls.com download page
(1,6 Mb).
The patch corrects a number of bugs and quest errors that were reported during the recent weeks. Among most important changes - improved performance for NVidia SLI and ATI Crossfire, Very Low Detail setting for low-end GeForce FX video cards, and important plugin-related fixes. Read complete patch changelog
here
, it's rather impressive for 1,6 Mb package.
Same patch is available from Xbox Live! for Xbox 360 users since June 7.

I guess no one forces you to install the new patch, right? You may play as before and ignore most bugs if you wish, using some of them to gain additional items. Though I don't really think that cheating has any use if you can always mod the game and add any number of any items to game world. Want to unbalance Oblivion - nothing easier! It's not a cheater-protected MMORPG.
What makes me wonder is Direct2Drive versions, how can these be patched? I've got a normal one, but anyway... I know that many preferred Direct2Drive.

Same patch is available from Xbox Live! for Xbox 360 users since June 7.
Did you read what I posted?
I don't own Xbox 360 and never intended to buy it, but patch is for both PC and console. And, according to Bethesda, available since June 7. Is it trustworthy or not, I cannot make sure.

Perhaps you should find and scoop up some info on this matter. I'm dying to know. But then again there will be no more infinite money glitches.

Obviously, it was released on June 7 as it should've been, at least I didn't find any evidence that might prove it wrong.
Though Xbox 360 version of the patch did have certain issues... read this, for example:
http://www.gameslave.co.uk/newscomments.cf...on-the-Xbox-360
Quote
It seems the recently released Oblivion patch has raised a few issues on the Xbox 360. According to 1up while the patch has improved frame rates and reduced stuttering there are new concerns from users regarding long load times and random lock-ups. Users are also reporting bugs still being present from before the patch.

What's with the need for infinate money anyway??? I'm stinking rich already from just sacking ruins and selling everything... I have to fast travel several times to carry it all to a merchant. I have more money than I know what to do with and I've never cheated. It's much more rewarding to role play and feel like you got your cash legit.

Couldn't agree more.

Being slightly offtopic, I'd remind a well-known fact. Many Xbox 360 owners who play Oblivion have troubles with overheating. A quote from Gamespot:
Quote
My 360 was crashing a lot (like once every 20 minutes). So I took the power supply off the ground and suspended it in the air with some string. I have been playing for about 3 hours straight and no crashes so far!
Well, let's admit that overheating for a console is slightly abnormal (PC might not be powerful enough, or have a bad cooling system for games, but what's wrong here?). I imagine future of humanity: living rooms with hanging PC and console power supplies, and children in colder regions playing games all night long in the winter to heat their homes.
This leads to another thought: it appears that Oblivion is a very special game! While PC gamers blame it for being too console-like (large fonts, limited hotkeys, easy quests), console gamers experience problems usual for PC users (overheating, after-patch flaws). But again, that's offtopic... let's just hope that Bethesda would fix everything they are able to.

If you prop up your 360 on some video's (while on its side) you can play for anything up to 12 hours and if anyone disagrees they die

It's improbable that the 360 is locking up because of overheating. It's more likely program bugs. However, I find them to be minimal. I'm using my 360 in an entertainment center for aesthetic reasons. It gets hot in there, but no other games ever lock the console up.
If you believe heat is locking up your 360, you can go this route:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F5RW1...glance&n=468642
I've thought about it since I'm not willing to move my 360 out of its attractive (but warm) home.

I've got a little update for 360 people. I bought this Nyko Intercooler:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F5RW1...glance&n=468642
I've gotta say that my 360 is cool as a cucumber now. I've never had an opinion about Nyko before, but that little device is well worth the $20. Ya it adds a little fan noise, but wow it makes a huge difference in the temperature of the unit! It's basically 3 small PC style fans that cleverly attaches to the back utilizing your existing power supply. If you have a 360 and play for hours on end, get one!
