Being slightly offtopic, I'd remind a well-known fact. Many Xbox 360 owners who play Oblivion have troubles with overheating. A quote from Gamespot:
Quote
My 360 was crashing a lot (like once every 20 minutes).  So I took the power supply off the ground and suspended it in the air with some string.  I have been playing for about 3 hours straight and no crashes so far!

Well, let's admit that overheating for a console is slightly abnormal (PC might not be powerful enough, or have a bad cooling system for games, but what's wrong here?). I imagine future of humanity: living rooms with hanging PC and console power supplies, and children in colder regions playing games all night long in the winter to heat their homes.

This leads to another thought: it appears that Oblivion is a very special game! While PC gamers blame it for being too console-like (large fonts, limited hotkeys, easy quests), console gamers experience problems usual for PC users (overheating, after-patch flaws). But again, that's offtopic... let's just hope that Bethesda would fix everything they are able to.

If you prop up your 360 on some video's (while on its side) you can play for anything up to 12 hours and if anyone disagrees they die

And the Hand which covers your mouth
I am the Void which takes your breath away
And the Shadow that fears the light.

It's improbable that the 360 is locking up because of overheating.  It's more likely program bugs.  However, I find them to be minimal.  I'm using my 360 in an entertainment center for aesthetic reasons.  It gets hot in there, but no other games ever lock the console up.

If you believe heat is locking up your 360, you can go this route:

I've thought about it since I'm not willing to move my 360 out of its attractive (but warm) home.

I've got a little update for 360 people.  I bought this Nyko Intercooler:

I've gotta say that my 360 is cool as a cucumber now.  I've never had an opinion about Nyko before, but that little device is well worth the $20.  Ya it adds a little fan noise, but wow it makes a huge difference in the temperature of the unit!  It's basically 3 small PC style fans that cleverly attaches to the back utilizing your existing power supply.  If you have a 360 and play for hours on end, get one!
